Rajasthan: Stone pelting on religious procession in Shahpura, people sit on dharna in protest

Communal tension spread in the area after stone pelting on Pitambar Rai Maharaj’s (Bevan) procession on the occasion of Jaljhulani Ekadashi on Saturday at Jahazpur subdivision headquarters of Shahpura district of Rajasthan. There was chaos in the area after the stone pelting. Many youths including a woman were injured in the stone pelting. After the incident, people involved in the procession raised slogans against the other party.

As soon as the information about the incident was received, BJP MLA from Jahazpur, Gopichand Meena reached the spot and sat on a dharna outside the religious place demanding the arrest of the accused.

MLA Gopichand Meena said that until the stone pelting accused are identified and arrested, he will sit on dharna and the procession of Lord’s Jal Vihar will not be taken out in the town. Due to this incident, tension has prevailed in Jahazpur town. The markets of the town have been closed. A large number of police force has been deployed.

In Jahazpur town, the idols of all the temples including the fort are taken to the Bhanwar Kala pond for a bath on Jaljhulani Ekadashi and they return to their respective temples late at night. In this sequence, this incident took place when the religious procession of Pitambar Rai Maharaj Bhagwan from the fort was passing through a religious place of another sect. The citizens have closed the market and stopped the procession of all the temples till the accused are not arrested. A large number of people have gathered at the site of the incident.

At the same time, Deputy Superintendent of Police Ajit Singh Meghvanshi, police station in-charge Ram Bana and a heavy police force have been deployed on the spot. Ajmer Range DIG Om Prakash also said that the Superintendent of Police from Shahpura is reaching Jahazpur with the police force. The situation is under control and police teams are engaged in tracking down the accused.
