Bazmee recalled in an interview, “If I sat down to write a book, I think I could write 2,000-3,000 pages.” His memories include witnessing Kapoor’s gentle charm on screen versus his strict demands behind the scenes. The stark contrast between their natures. As Bazmee puts it, Kapoor was “bhola bhala” (innocent and simple) as an actor, but turned into a “terrorist” on the sets, a figure who often kept the crew on their toes.

One of Kapoor’s defining characteristics as a director is his unpredictability. “Raj Sahab is very unpredictable; you can never predict what will happen next,” Bazmee explains. This unpredictability, combined with Kapoor’s explosive temper, created a hauntingly tense work environment.

Bazmee also revealed the rigor with which Kapoor went about editing the film. “He did enjoy drinking and smoking, but when he started editing he stopped completely. He wouldn’t drink or smoke until the editing was done – whether it was a month, two months, or even 10 months – Smoking,” Bazmee shared, underscoring Kapoor’s commitment to his craft.

Recalling a humorous yet tense moment, Bazmee recounted how a small mistake almost derailed Kapoor’s celebratory mood after a particularly productive day of shooting. Kapoor finished with an impressive 15-17 shots and planned a celebration. However, when Bazmee accidentally provided the wrong costume for actor Kubushan Kabanda, Kapoor’s fiery personality soon took over, leaving the crew on edge.

Working with Kapoor Prem Rogge Bazmee offers valuable insights into the meticulous dedication that led to the legendary filmmaker’s career.

The director’s reminiscences paint a vivid picture of Kapoor’s legacy – both his undying passion for cinema and the unforgettable impact he left on those who worked with him.
