Heavy rains are being received in several states across the country these days. Flood-like conditions persist in some states. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has said that heavy rains are likely in the country’s capital, Delhi. According to IMD, the rainfall system over Delhi has become active, so heavy rains are likely in Delhi-NCR in the coming days. The active system over Jharkhand will move towards the northwest, and Delhi and adjoining areas are likely to receive heavy rains.

Delhi to have heavy rains

According to the Meteorological Department, the National Capital Region (NCR) and Delhi are likely to see heavy rains on September 18 due to a weather system generated by the remnants of Cyclone Yagi formed over the Pacific Ocean. The system, which has now developed into a low pressure area, is currently active over Jharkhand and is expected to move rapidly towards the northwest. It will cover many parts of Madhya Pradesh (MP) and Uttar Pradesh (UP) before reaching Delhi NCR.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy rains in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Uttar Pradesh as the pressure is moving across the states. The meteorological department and administration have warned residents of these areas to be prepared for waterlogging, transport disruptions and other local inconveniences that may result from heavy rains.

Delhi is likely to receive moderate to heavy rains on September 18 and 19. According to the Meteorological Department, Delhi is likely to receive heavy rains on September 18 and light rains on September 19. Waterlogging is also likely to occur in the national capital during this period. This week, the maximum temperature in Delhi is likely to remain between 32 and 35 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is likely to be around 23 to 25 degrees Celsius.

IMD Estimates

According to IMD, a yellow alert will be issued for Delhi and its surrounding areas on September 18. Although the weather indicated by the yellow alert is not as severe as the orange alert, it still indicates the possibility of heavy rainfall and residents are advised to keep abreast of weather conditions. Meanwhile, the rainfall in the Delhi National Capital Region is expected to increase in September, and the rainfall in the first 15 days of the month has exceeded the monthly average. However, during this period, heavy rains may cause slippery roads, reduced visibility, and may cause flooding in low-lying areas. Citizens are advised to travel with caution.
