Due to cloud burst in Jangalchatti near Lincholi on Wednesday night at around 9.30 pm, heavy rains on Gaurikund-Kedarnath footpath led to the washing away of 20-25 meter road in Bhimbali and huge stones came from the mountains. After this, the road to Rambada, Bhimbali Lincholi was completely closed. Due to cloud burst, 30 meters of road on Kedarnath Yatra route has been submerged in Mandakini river.

4 thousand people were rescued
Kedarnath Yatra has been stopped after heavy rains and a large number of people are stranded. The rescue operation continued even during the night and NDRF and SDRF jointly conducted the rescue operation. So far, more than 4000 devotees have been rescued safely in the rescue operation conducted by helicopter and on foot.

Today about 1000 people trapped in the Dham will be evacuated by helicopter. The rescue operation has started again on the footpath since morning. Air lifting of passengers has also been started from Bhimbali and Lincholi. Manual rescue is also going on continuously. The passengers who reached Son Prayag on foot till late night were safely taken to Son Prayag market.

Air Force is helping

Air Force is also being continuously used to bring stranded people. To speed up the air lift, Chinook and MI 17 helicopters of the Air Force have also reached Gauchar on Friday morning. MI 17 took one round and rescued 10 people and took them to Gauchar.

Issuing a statement, the Air Force said, ‘The Indian Air Force has started the rescue operation from Kedarnath. Indian Air Force has started rescue operation in Kedarnath through Mi17V5 and Chinook. NDRF teams with one Chinook and one Mi17 V5 helicopter were rushed to the rescue sites. More equipment of the Indian Air Force is on standby for further action.

CM met the affected people
Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami, while posting on X, said, ‘After conducting on-site inspection of the areas affected by heavy rainfall in Kedarghati on Wednesday night, he met the local people and devotees from different states and inquired about their well-being. During this, District Magistrate Rudraprayag was instructed to speed up the work of improving the damaged roads and footpaths and to quickly shift people from sensitive places to safe places. He also told the Secretary that if any kind of assistance is sought by the District Magistrates for relief and rescue operations due to excessive rainfall, it should be made available immediately.
