Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is likely to visit America in September. This information has been given in media reports. He is expected to meet Indian expatriates, students and lawmakers in America. This will be Rahul Gandhi’s first foreign trip after becoming the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha.
According to the information, Rahul Gandhi can leave for America in the second week of September where he is likely to stay for 8 to 9 days. This visit of Rahul is taking place at a time when the campaign for the presidential elections in America is at its peak.
First foreign trip as opposition leader
This will be Rahul’s first foreign trip as Leader of Opposition. The post of Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha remained vacant from 2014 to 2024. This was because during that period no opposition party had enough MPs to hold the post. However, after the number of Congress Party seats reached 99 in the recently held Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi was appointed the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha on June 25, 2024.
Rahul went to America in June last year
Earlier, Rahul Gandhi had visited America last year in June 2023. He interacted with Indian students in San Francisco and also addressed a press conference. He also interacted with the Indian community.
Rahul went on a tour of Britain in March 2023. There he participated in many programs including Cambridge. There was a political uproar in India regarding the statements made by Rahul Gandhi during his visit to Britain. Congress and the ruling BJP had come face to face on this issue. While BJP was asking Rahul to apologise, Congress had also made it clear that no question of apology arises on Rahul’s statement.
