Hindenburg’s claim

In fact, American research and investment company Hindenburg had released a report on Saturday night in which it has expressed suspicion that the reason for the reluctance of the capital markets regulator SEBI to take action against the Adani Group is the Adani business of SEBI chief Madhabi Buch and her husband Dhaval Buch. There may be stake in foreign funds associated with the group. On this report, SEBI said on Sunday that it has duly investigated all the allegations against Adani Group and the Chairman gave relevant information from time to time and kept himself away from matters related to possible conflict of interest.

Responding to the allegations, the Buchs said in a joint statement on Sunday that these investments were made in 2015, much before their appointment as whole-time members of SEBI in 2017 and their elevation as chairpersons in March 2022. These investments were made ‘in my private capacity as a private citizen while residing in Singapore’. After his appointment in SEBI, these funds became ‘dormant’.
