Raghav Chadda raised the issue of increasing fare burden, “people’s pocketbooks are being slashed in the name of air travel”.

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party’s Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha raised the pain of common air passengers during the discussion on the Indian Aviation Bill 2024 in the Rajya Sabha. He said the government had forgotten its promise of providing cheap air tickets under the UDAN scheme. He said – There was a promise to make slippers travel by air, but what happened to the government’s promise? Now even people who wear Bata shoes can’t buy air tickets.

The government should provide air travel services for ordinary passengers

He mentioned the rise in air ticket prices and said there should be some regulatory measures to control it. Raghav Chadha said people’s wallets are being emptied in the name of air travel. He mentioned the ticket prices for different flight sectors, with some places charging very high fares to passengers. Flights to the Maldives are cheap, but flights to Lakshadweep are expensive. He said the government should make air travel accessible to ordinary travelers rather than luxury travel.

Tea and water are also expensive

Food and drinks at the airport are also expensive, Raghav Chadda said. He said a cup of tea would cost 200-250 rupees. A bottle of water costs 20 rupees in the market outside and 100 rupees in the airport.

Long queues at the airport

Raghav Chadha said that even if the fare is expensive, travel is not guaranteed. There is no warranty even if your item is damaged or cracked. He described the country’s airports as worse than bus stations and said queues were so long that many people even missed their flights. People buy expensive tickets to reach their destination quickly, but in smaller cities, flights are delayed by 3 to 4 hours.

Lack of airport connectivity in many places affects tourism

The AAP MP said there are no airports near many popular tourist spots in the country and the tourism industry is affected due to lack of connectivity. Raghav Chadha urged the Union Civil Aviation Minister to address these challenges faced by air passengers.
