Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will file her nomination for the Wayanad Lok Sabha by-election on Wednesday. Congress president Mallikarjun Haq, former party presidents Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi will be present at the event. On Wednesday, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi will also hold a road show at Kalpetta New Bus Stand at 11 am, the news agency reported. Thereafter, nominations will be submitted to the district collector around 12 noon.
Soon after the Election Commission announced the Wayanad by-election, the Congress announced that Priyanka Gandhi would be the candidate for the seat in Kerala. After the Congress dispatched the AICC general secretary from Wayanad, party workers put up posters in the constituency with the words “Dear Wayanad” written on them. Navya is a mechanical engineer by profession and completed her B.Tech degree in 2007. According to her social media profile, she is the MP from Kozhikode Corporation and also serves as the state general secretary of the Mahila Morcha of the BJP.
2024 by-election
The Election Commission announced by-elections for 48 parliamentary constituencies and two parliamentary seats on October 15. Along with the Maharashtra and Jharkhand assembly elections, these by-elections will be held in two phases. The first phase of voting will be held on November 13 for 47 assembly constituencies and the Wayanad Assembly seat in Kerala. The second phase of voting will be held on November 20 for the Kedarnath assembly seat in Uttarakhand and the Nanded assembly seat in Maharashtra. Counting and announcement will take place on November 23.
