Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Jammu on September 14th to lead the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) campaign for the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly elections. The Prime Minister, who is a star campaigner among the 40 leaders of the BJP, will hold mega rallies in the Jammu province of the Union Territory.
The three-phase elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be held after a gap of ten years, starting from September 18 and concluding on October 1. The counting of votes will take place on October 8.
The BJP has already released its first list of candidates for the elections, which includes key names like Er. Syed Showkat Gayoor Andrabi and Devender Singh Rana[4]. The party has also finalized around 50 candidates and may field several Muslim candidates in the Poonch Belt.
The elections in Jammu and Kashmir are the first since the abrogation of Article 370, which granted special status to the erstwhile state. The BJP’s campaign, led by Prime Minister Modi, is expected to feature other prominent leaders like Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
The elections in Jammu and Kashmir have generated significant interest, with other parties like the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC), and Indian National Congress (INC) also gearing up for the polls. The PDP has released a list of 17 candidates, while the JKNC and INC have formed an alliance called the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) to contest the elections.
As the political parties gear up for the elections, the people of Jammu and Kashmir eagerly await the outcome, which will shape the future of the Union Territory in the post-Article 370 era.
