Rules for appointment of UPSC Chairman

The Chairman and members of UPSC are directly appointed by the President. This appointment is made under Article 316(1) of the Constitution. At least half of the members are members of the civil service (serving or retired) with at least 10 years’ experience under the Government of India or a State. Under Article 317, only the President can remove the Chairman and other members of UPSC from their posts.
