Big news about pollution came out of the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court said hearings on pollution issues are not limited to Delhi-NCR. The court will hear pollution concerns across the country. The court further said that pollution is a nationwide problem and hence the scope of hearing is being expanded.
SC seeks information on most polluted cities
The Supreme Court has sought information from the central government about the country’s most polluted city. The SC has asked the government if a system like the Air Quality Management Board can be set up in other polluted cities in the country along the Delhi-NCR? The court said that a wrong message should not be sent that since the apex committee is in Delhi, the court is only concerned with pollution issues in Delhi.
SC condemns Delhi govt
The SC condemned the Delhi government for not providing necessary information on solid waste disposal. The court asked the Chief Secretary to appear in person for a hearing on December 19. The court said that if the Chief Secretary does not file an affidavit on the implementation of our order of November 11 before the next hearing, then we will initiate contempt proceedings.
Grap-3 implemented in Delhi-NCR
Grape 3, on the other hand, has been implemented again in the Delhi-NCR region. Under this, there will be a complete ban on construction and demolition related works. Additionally, interstate buses from NCR states will not be allowed to enter Delhi. Among them, electric vehicles, CNG vehicles and BS IV diesel buses have been exempted.
