A team from the United Nations refugee rights agency UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) visited the Rohingya settlement in Kalyani Talab, Jammu, on Tuesday. The visit comes at a time when security agencies and intelligence agencies in Jammu and Kashmir are launching operations against Rohingya refugees living illegally.

Many organizations opposed this action by the security agencies, and now the United Nations has also become involved in the matter. Two United Nations officials, one of whom is Indian and Japanese, met with the Rohingya. Sources say a UN Human Rights Commission team could meet with the Rohingya again today.

In early March, a four-member delegation from the United Nations Human Rights Commission visited Kathua in Jammu and Kashmir after the Rohingyas were transferred to Kathua.

Charged with illegal residence

According to sources, 158 Rohingya refugees illegally made Adharka in Jammu and Kashmir. Apart from this, it is also reported that security agencies have identified 4 such NGOs that are helping the Rohingya people in Jammu and Kashmir.

Disconnect water and electricity

Let us tell you that the Rohingyas living in Jammu’s Narwal district had their water and electricity connections cut off after the census. Since then, politics over the matter have intensified, with some calling it anti-human rights. Security agencies are keeping a close eye on these settlements amid many reports of Rohingya involvement in anti-national activities.

Those opposing the UNHRC team’s visit say the UN is silent on the atrocities committed against Hindus in Bangladesh, but a UNHCR team has arrived in Jammu to look for Rohingya infiltrators living illegally in Jammu and Kashmir.
