Jammu, Sept 14: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday reserved his “powerful verbal weapon” against the thorn in his and his party’s side – the Congress and its leadership, while seeking support from the people of Jammu and Kashmir for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates.

Addressing his first campaign rally in Doda for the 2024 Jammu and Kashmir state assembly election, he described the Congress as the “most deceitful and dishonest party in India” and the Shahi (dynasty) family of the Congress as the most corrupt family.

He also directly targeted Congress president Mallikarjun Kharg, though he did not name him, saying, “Look at the arrogance of the Congress president who said that if the BJP gets 20 more seats in the Lok Sabha elections, they will put Modi and all other BJP leaders in jail. I want to ask, do they want to come to power and put Modi and others in jail or do they want to serve the people of the country. What is your aim? They are liars. They talk about the Constitution but in the guise of the Constitution, they carry out all unconstitutional activities.”

“They are spreading hatred through so-called ‘Mohabbat Ki Dukan’. Jammu is also a victim of their (Congress) politics of hate. They discriminate against Jammu. They have insulted Dogra Sahib, which is an insult to the entire Dogra community. Remember this. On the other hand, people have given us the third consecutive term in six decades. But our aim is only to serve the people, unlike the Congress,” PM Modi said.

He said the Congress had ruined Himachal Pradesh by making false promises in order to stay in power. “You need to be wary of the Congress and its allies who are fooling the people with deceptive politics and bringing misery to the states they rule.”

PM Modi also mentioned the incident in which a journalist from a national newspaper in the US was manhandled during a show hosted by Rahul Gandhi, leader of the All India Christian Chamber of Commerce and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha. He sarcastically said: “This reflects the culture of equivocation and deception of the Congress Party, which talks about the Constitution, democracy and freedom of speech. His (Rahul’s) remarks clearly show his deceptive intentions on reservations.”

The Prime Minister warned that the Congress and its ally NCP were discussing restoration of Article 370 as they wanted to scrap reservations for Paharis, Dalits, Gujjars and take away rights of women, refugees and other groups.
