Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Brunei. Today was the first day of his visit here. Apart from meeting the Indian community, he also visited a famous mosque. He visited the Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque in Bandar Seri Begawan. This visit of the PM was an important moment in the relations between the two countries.

PM Modi’s visit is part of the PM’s agenda to strengthen cultural, economic and strategic partnership. PM Modi has arrived in Brunei on a two-day visit. PM Modi was warmly welcomed by the people of the Indian community as soon as he arrived at Brunei International Airport.

Also talked to Paralympic athletes

During his Brunei visit, Prime Minister Modi also talked to the Paralympic players, free from agendas. He told about this in his Instagram post and also shared a picture of the conversation. He wrote in one of his posts on Instagram, “After the day’s events in Brunei Darussalam, we called our Paralympic champions and congratulated them.” The PM also said, “India is proud of its athletes!”

The Prime Minister also visited the famous mosque

Brunei’s Religious Affairs Minister Pihin Dato’ Ustaz Haji Aung Badruddin and Health Minister Dato’ Dr Haji Mohd Isham welcomed PM Modi at the famous mosque.

Built in 1958, the Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque is not just a religious place but also a cultural heritage. This mosque is named after the 28th Sultan of Brunei and its structure is inspired by the Mughals. Shanghai granite and Italian marble have been used in the building of the mosque.

The mosque also has attractive stained glass detailing, which attracts visitors. Its 52-metre-high minaret is the tallest minaret in central Bandar Seri Begawan, reflecting Brunei’s rich Islamic heritage. During his visit, PM Modi interacted with members of the Indian community and emphasised on cultural exchange between India and Brunei.
