Prime Minister Narendra Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday discussed the completion of the 10-year First Class Pension (OROP) scheme for the country’s soldiers. He also paid tribute to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the country. Prime Minister Modi shared a post on his social media account ‘X’ and said that the One Level Pension Plan (OROP) was implemented on this day. It is a tribute to the courage and sacrifice of soldiers and veterans who have given their lives to protect our country. Prime Minister Modi said the decision to implement OROP is an important step towards meeting this long-term need and reaffirming our country’s gratitude to our heroes.
The scheme was one of the major issues of the BJP government in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. The goal is to provide equal pensions to retired soldiers of equal rank and length of service, regardless of their date of retirement. Lakhs of families and pensioners have benefited from the scheme, demonstrating the government’s commitment to the welfare of armed forces personnel.
Military personnel will receive benefits
Prime Minister Modi said that his government has fulfilled the first-tier pension guarantee. Targeting the Congress government, he said that if there was a Congress government, this would be just a dream. Meanwhile, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh also expressed his appreciation for the plan and said that OROP is an important pillar of the Prime Minister’s Armed Forces Policy. Rajnath Singh said that more than 2.5 million ex-servicemen have benefited from the scheme, which confirms the government’s commitment to soldiers and their families.
Do you know what its characteristics are?
“One post, one pension” means that retirees with the same rank and the same service period will enjoy the same pension without changing their retirement date. Let us tell you that before this scheme was implemented, veterans used to receive pension based on the recommendations of the Pay Commission. All Armed Forces personnel who retired before June 30, 2014 are covered by this policy. The committee was formed on the recommendations of the Koshyari Committee, a 10-member all-party parliamentary group chaired by Bhagat Singh Koshyari. Currently, the highest number of beneficiaries of the scheme are in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab.
