PM Modi congratulates Omar Abdullah and says – We will work together for the progress of Jammu and Kashmir

Prime Minister congratulates Abdullah

Omar Abdullah was sworn in as the first chief minister of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir after the National Conference won the assembly elections. He took the oath at the Sher Kashmir International Conference Center on the banks of Dal Lake in Srinagar. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated him. Prime Minister Modi took to social media platform X to wish Omar on being sworn in as chief minister. He said he congratulated Omar Abdullah for his efforts in serving the public. He also said that the central government will work with him and his team for the progress of Jammu and Kashmir.

Surinder Kumar Choudhary was sworn in as Deputy Prime Minister along with Omar. He contested from Nowshera and defeated BJP leader Ravinder Raina by 7,819 votes.

VIP leaders attended the ceremony

Opposition leaders in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, Sanjewadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, Communist Party of India leader Raja and many other important leaders attended Omar Abdullah’s swearing-in ceremony. However, former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee did not attend the ceremony. Ministers in Omar’s cabinet also took the oath at the ceremony. DS Pora MLA Sakina Ittu was sworn in as minister. Apart from this, Javed Rana, MLA from Mendhar and Javed Ahmed Dar, MLA from Rafiabad, were appointed as ministers for the first time. Satish Sharma, who was elected as an independent and supported the National Conference, was also sworn in as minister. After taking the oath, he raised slogans of “Jai Mata Di”.

Bharatiya Janata Party expresses hope to establish peace

BJP leaders reacted after the swearing-in ceremony. Jammu and Kashmir PPP chief Ravinder Raina congratulated Omar Abdullah on becoming the new chief minister and congratulated him on the council of ministers. He expressed hope that Omar Abdullah would work to establish peace and solve public problems. People’s Democratic Party Chairman Mufti also congratulated Omar Abdullah and said the people of Jammu and Kashmir have had a stable government for a long time.

He also said that after August 5, 2019, it was a very difficult period for the people of Jammu and Kashmir and he hoped that the new government would be able to solve the problems of the people.
