Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Wednesday launched an AI (artificial intelligence) and ML (machine learning) search tool that will help clear trademark applications faster and more efficiently.
The Minister said AI must be embraced by all as it will help further facilitate ease of doing business in various sectors.
“It (AI/ML search tool) will help clear trademark applications faster, more efficiently and accurately,” Goyal said.
He added that AI is a tool that is here to stay and faster adoption of AI will improve work outcomes.
The commerce minister also said that the search tool and IP (Intellectual Property) chatbot will further strengthen the country’s IP ecosystem. The chatbot will help in processing queries faster.
India is the third largest trademark country and the sixth largest patent applicant in the world.
Goyal pointed out that the number of patents granted in India last year was over 1 lakh as against 6,000 patents granted in 2014-15.
Startups
On September 16, Piyush Goyal launched the Indian Startup Knowledge Access Registry (BHASKAR) scheme under the Startup India initiative.
“The sun brings enlightenment, light and growth and BHASKAR will promote collaboration, cooperation and also competition among each other,” Goyal said in a statement.
BHASKAR aims to unify and empower India’s rapidly growing startup ecosystem by providing a one-stop solution for seamless collaboration, knowledge sharing and innovation.
The Minister said the centre will work towards making the ecosystem social, democratised and visible to the world.
“Technology and connectivity will help Indians build ‘Brand India’ as a tool to market our products and services to the world and help us change India’s image in the rest of the world,” he said.
The Minister stressed that the government wants the startup industry to be independent and reach global levels while maintaining integrity, quality and the belief to succeed in the world.
