Pitrupacha 2024: Shraddha will be performed today on Panchami Tithi of Pitripaksha. On this day, there is a tradition of offering Pind Daan and Tarpan to the ancestors. The tradition of honoring the ancestors and doing charity during Pitru Paksha has been going on for centuries. It is said that during Pitru Paksha, our ancestors come down from Yamalok and bless us. To please the ancestors, we perform Shraddha according to the date. On the fifth day of Pitripaksha, there is a tradition of performing Shraddha on Panchami Tithi.

On Panchami Tithi, Shraddha is performed for those deceased family members whose death occurred on Panchami Tithi according to the Hindu calendar. It is also known as Shraddha of Panchami. Shraddha rituals are performed to offer tarpan and shraddha to the ancestors.

Bathing and purification: The person performing Shraddhakarta should take a bath in the morning and wear clean clothes.

Preparation of Shraddha Website: Choose a holy place for Shraddha. Spread the holy seat there and ask Brahmins or sages to offer food. Get the Panchpatra and Dakshina ready.

The Call of the Ancestors: The Shraddha performers should meditate on their ancestors and invoke them with mantras. This stage is to incorporate the ancestors into the Shraddha ritual.

Tappan: During the tarpan process, offer water, sesame seeds and bitter sand to the ancestors. Perform tarpan 3 times. Offer water to the ancestors while chanting mantras.

Offering water to the gods: Pind Daan is an important part of Shraddha ritual. Pind Daan made of rice, barley and sesame seeds are offered to the ancestors. Pind Daan are prepared and offered to the ancestors along with mantras.

Pray to God before the fire: During Hawan, people offer ghee, sesame, barley etc. This is done in the holy fire for the peace and satisfaction of the ancestral spirits.

Brahman Feast: After the Shraddha ceremony, food must be offered to the Brahmins or any worthy person. Offer them food, clothes and dakshina. Offering food to the Brahmins is for the peace of their ancestral souls.

Shraddha Food: Finally, the Shraddha performer and other family members should also eat. This food is considered sacred and eating it is a part of the Shraddha ritual. Finally, the Shraddha ritual ends by taking blessings from the ancestors.
