This means the maximum weekly amount for those receiving both the enhanced daily living and mobility components is now £184.30, or £737.20 every four weeks.
As of April 2024, there were 3.4 million PIP claimants in England and Wales, a 3% increase from January 2024. In Scotland, the number of PIP claims has been declining as people are transferred to the new Adult Disability Payment (ADP) system.
The PIP assessment process remains unchanged. A medical professional will evaluate the level of support needed to determine the appropriate rate. Those with a terminal illness automatically qualify for the enhanced daily living component.
The increase in PIP rates aims to ensure the benefit keeps pace with the rising cost of living. However, the government is also considering reforms to potentially provide grants, shopping vouchers or catalogues instead of cash payments in the future.
