Pilibhit is witnessing flood-like situation due to rising water level in Sharda and its tributaries. Villages on the banks of Sharda river in Kalinagar tehsil and Puranpur tehsil have been submerged. The situation in Chandia Hazara village in Puranpur is very bad. This is the second time floods have occurred here in a few days this monsoon season. A few days ago, CM Yogi Adityanath himself came here. But after his departure, no one came to take care of the people here.

The village of Chandia Hazara here is the worst affected by the floods. There are boats plying on the roads, streets and grounds of the village due to the floods. Meanwhile, some people are removing inner tubes from the tires of tractors and carts and moving them from one house to another. The Aaj Tak team was here from morning till night. But no police were seen on the streets of the village. When the expedition team was sitting in the boat and trying to understand the situation in the village, people told them that the news from the officials came in the evening. People told them that there was nothing they could do and that is why they were stuck. Afterwards, when the team spoke to the local accountant who was taking a rest at the village secretary’s office, he seemed reluctant to answer.

People blame officials for not helping

The tehsil officials allegedly left from here after meeting the accountant. As a result, the villagers are resentful of the officials who were present there because they did not go around the village to see how many people had come out and who was still trapped.

Regarding the floods, a woman named Chapala said that she received news of the arrival of floods. But we cannot go out. No officials have come to us now. We don’t have any food or drinks. A local farmer living here told reporters that the village has been flooded. Therefore, the entire ration has been destroyed. But he did not get any help from the authorities.

Regarding this, local Parmar Vishwas told reporters that the water has flooded the houses. Therefore, the whole thing is submerged. A few days ago, when the floods came, Yogi came and told us that despite this, we are not getting any ration and no officials have come here.

In this situation, Om Prakash Chandia, an accountant of Hajar village, said, “We announced the water supply on Saturday. All arrangements were made from our side as well. Tractor trolleys were deployed to take people to higher ground for help. A youth from our area also died due to drowning. Five villages around me have water and the rest of the villages on the other side of the river are full of water. People are getting help from our side but some are reluctant to leave their homes.”

That’s why floods happen

Due to incessant rains in the hills, the Bambasar Barrage in Uttarakhand has released 4061,548 cusecs of water into the Sharda river this season. As a result, the situation in the villages of Kalinagar Tehsil Nagar and lower Puranpur Tehsil in Pilibhit deteriorated last night. More than two dozen villages have become islands. Besides, boats are also plying in the village streets and roads. Children fill tubes with air, sit on them and walk from one house to another.

The situation is going from bad to worse. Villagers said no police have come yet. Meanwhile, officials had issued advisories the day before and posted information on social media about water supply. On Saturday, when the village was flooded, no officials came to the village. Yogi Adityanath himself came to seek compensation for the flood that occurred a few days ago.
