Patna submerged after heavy rains, water entered assembly campus and ministers’ bungalow

After heavy rains in Patna, the capital of Bihar, the government’s preparations were exposed. The entire city was flooded. After continuous rains, the Bihar Assembly complex, bungalows of many nearby ministers and many other places including hospitals in Patna were flooded.

Heavy rain in Patna

According to the news agency, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar visited different affected areas to take stock of the situation. The city received 41.8 mm rainfall, causing waterlogging in most of the posh areas and low-lying areas including Strand Road, Rajbansi Nagar, Boring Road, Bailey Road and Pataliputra Colony, and also disrupted vehicular movement.

Waterlogging in ministers’ house

There was water logging in Bihar Assembly complex. The official bungalows of several state ministers living a few hundred meters away were also flooded. The Chief Minister inspected pump houses in different areas and directed officials to ensure that there is no water logging in the city during heavy rains.

Urban Development and Housing Minister Nitin Nabin called an emergency meeting after visuals and reports of waterlogging emerged on social media from across the city.

Officials’ leave canceled

A statement issued by his office said the minister noted the lack of preparedness and response systems. Nabeen said all senior officers on leave should be asked to return to duty immediately and according to his office, no leave should be sanctioned till September 30.

Meanwhile, the state government has directed district administration officials across the state to remain alert as the water level of many rivers is rising following continuous rains for the last two days. State Water Resources Department officials said on Sunday that the situation is not worrisome as of now.

Due to the rain in the last few days, the water level of rivers like Gandak, Kosi, Ganga, Budhi Gandak, Mahananda and Kamla has increased in the state. At some places in Patna, Gopalganj, East Champaran, West Champaran, rivers are flowing above the danger mark. Rivers have also swollen in Bagaha, Purnia, Supaul, Darbhanga, Khagaria and Jhanjharpur in the state.
