Parliamentary claims, accusations against Indian diplomats and now a U-turn… How Trudeau reversed course on Nijar scandal in one year

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made very serious accusations against the Indian government in Parliament last year. The charges are related to the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijar. Trudeau accused Indian agents of involvement in Nijar’s murder. Trudeau reiterated the accusations against the Indian government exactly a year after they were made, but on Wednesday he retracted his statement.

Trudeau appeared before a committee investigating foreign interference in Canada’s elections. He told the committee that there was credible evidence that Indian agents were involved in Nijjar’s murder.

He said his government had only provided intelligence about Nijjar’s murder to the Indian government. No concrete evidence to this effect was provided to the Indian government.

“We are working behind the scenes to work with the Indian government on this matter,” he said. But they asked us to provide evidence against us. We say you should investigate according to your level. But he stood by the evidence. But at that time we only had intelligence in this regard and no concrete evidence. That’s why we say let’s work together to solve this problem.

Trudeau said that information about Canadian citizens’ opposition to the Modi government was provided to high-level officials in the Indian government, which was later provided to criminal organizations such as the Lawrence Bishnoi Gang, resulting in violence against Canadian citizens.

Trudeau said we wanted to interrogate Indian diplomats but couldn’t because of their diplomatic immunity, so we asked them to leave the country. Prime Minister Trudeau said that over time, intelligence agencies told him that the Indian government was involved in Nijar’s murder, but there was no connection.

He said that in August, Canadian intelligence agencies and the Five Eyes alliance made it clear that India was involved in this matter. Indian agents did the job on Canadian soil. We told them that your security agencies were involved in this. The Indian government doubled down on us for our investigation. We told the Indian side that we had no concrete evidence, only intelligence information. India is targeting our government. This is a direct sign of a violation of our sovereignty.

Prime Minister Trudeau said Indian diplomats are collecting information on people who oppose Modi’s government or disagree with him and hand it over to the Indian government. Later, the information was passed on to criminal gangs such as Lawrence Bishnoi. The RCMP’s goal is to break that chain. It is for this purpose that Indian diplomats were expelled.

He said that after the G20 summit in Delhi last year, I had a conversation with Prime Minister Modi. We told them we knew Indian agents were involved. We are also concerned about this. He said that there are people in Canada who are making remarks against the Indian government and we want to arrest them.
