New Delhi: A week-long parliamentary session is expected to proceed peacefully from today. In a meeting with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday, the opposition parties and the government agreed to hold the parliamentary session without any ruckus. Therefore, today, Tuesday, both parliamentary sessions can proceed without interruption. During this period, there were constant disputes between the ruling party and the opposition parties.
The House of Representatives will discuss the Constitution
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said after Speaker Om Birla met leaders of various parties in the House of Representatives that the lower house will discuss the constitution on December 13 and 14 and the upper house will discuss the constitution on December 16 and 17. The opposition parties demanded discussions in both houses of Parliament on the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the constitution by the Constituent Assembly.
The opposition can raise any issue in accordance with the rules
Rijiju told reporters that all political parties have agreed to allow parliament to function from Tuesday and both houses will consider the agenda they have laid out. He expressed confidence that the Lok Sabha and the Federal House of Representatives will operate smoothly from Tuesday. Several opposition leaders present at the meeting also supported Rijiju’s view that parliament would function smoothly from Tuesday.
Asked about other issues raised by the opposition such as the Sambal violence and riots in Manipur, Rijiju said Speaker Birla had made it clear that any issue can be raised as per the rules while he has asked all parties to Parliament takes action. It has been asked to run smoothly.
SP and TMC can raise this issue
Sources said the Samajwadi Party may be allowed to raise the Sambhar issue and the TMC may be allowed to raise the incidents that happened in Bangladesh after the Sheikh Hasina government came to power. Since the start of the winter session on November 25, the proceedings of the Lok Sabha and the Union House have been continuously postponed due to strong opposition from the opposition on issues such as the Sambal violence and Manipur riots. Congress continues to raise the issue of U.S. prosecutors charging Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani and other company executives with bribery and fraud.
