Paris Paralympics 2024: Rain of medals continues in Paris Paralympics… Sachin Sarjerao Khilari rocks in shot put, wins silver

Indian athletes are in action on the seventh day of Paris Paralympics 2024 i.e. on 4 September (Wednesday). Now Indian para-athlete Sachin Sarjerao Khilari has made a splash. Sachin won the silver medal in Men’s Shot Put (F46). This was India’s 21st medal in the current Paralympics. India has so far won 3 gold, 7 silver and 11 bronze medals.

During the final match, Sachin Sarjerao Khilari threw 16.32 meters in his second attempt. Canada’s Greg Stewart won the gold medal in this event. Stewart’s best throw was 16.38 meters. Croatia’s Bakovic Luka (16.27 meters) won the bronze medal. India’s Mohammad Yasar finished eighth and Rohit Kumar ninth.

34-year-old Sachin Khilari hails from Sangli district of Maharashtra. At the age of nine, he was injured in a bicycle accident, which resulted in a fracture in his left hand. Despite this, he pursued his passion for sports along with studying engineering. Initially he started throwing javelin, but after a shoulder injury he chose shot put. This change proved to be a turning point in his career.

India has performed its best ever in the Paralympic Games. In Tokyo Paralympics 2020, India won 5 gold, 8 silver and 6 bronze medals. With a total of 19 medals, this was India’s best performance in the Paralympic Games so far. Para athlete Muralikant Petkar won India’s first medal in the Paralympic Games in the year 1972. Muralikant Petkar is the same player on whose life the film ‘Chandu Champion’ was also released recently.
