OTT releases this week: ‘CTRL’, ‘Signature’, ‘Manwat Murder’ and more

This week’s entertainment program is excellent, with many interesting entries from different genres, both national and global. We confront the dangers of artificial intelligence technology in Ananya Panday’s Netflix thriller CTRL, and relive the horror of brutal, mysterious killings in a 1970s Maharashtra village in SonyLiv’s Manvat Murders. Anupam Kher tells the story of a heartbroken man who must decide when to break off ties with his wife of 35 years, who is now in a vegetative state and kept alive by an expensive life support machine.

Internationally, two critically acclaimed web series have been renewed for a third time. Legends of Vox Machina takes us into the fantasy world of Exandria from the popular game Dungeons & Dragons, while Heartstopper tells the touching love story of two teenage boys.

Next up, big news for anime lovers: Netflix is about to release a new adaptation of the Japanese manga Ranma ½. The show tells the story of a young martial artist who is transformed into a girl by pouring cold water on her and needs to be poured with hot water to return to normal.

Heartbroken, Avasti turned to an artificial intelligence application for help in erasing Mascarenhas from her life. Everything seems fine until the app starts taking control of her life, turning her into a mere spectator.

Anupam Kher’s “Signature” deals with the sensitive subject of life support systems for dying patients. Kher plays an ordinary middle-class man whose beloved wife of 35 years is forced to stay on life support after an unexpected health crisis. As medical bills continue to mount and hope for her recovery dwindles, the husband is faced with a heartbreaking dilemma: continue treatment or sever ties with his wife in a vegetative state. The film is a Hindi adaptation of Vikram Gokhale’s National Award-winning Marathi film Anumati (2013).

Between 1970 and 1976, the village of Manwat in Maharashtra was rocked by mysterious murders of children, babies and women. The corpses are said to have strange marks on them, suggesting mysterious or ritual killings. Even after years of investigation, the culprits and motives behind these brutal killings remain unclear. SonyLiv’s eight-part series is set against the backdrop of these murders, retelling the story from the investigators’ perspective. It will offer streaming in Marathi, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Bengali.

Vox Machina Legends Season 3

Meanwhile, the romance between Keles and Wax continues to blossom amid the chaos.

The series is based on the first campaign of the web series Critical Role, which in turn is based on the game Dungeons & Dragons. Both seasons have been well received by critics and audiences alike, with ratings of 100% on the popular review site Rotten Tomatoes.

Ranma ½

Ranma ½ is one of the most popular manga series of all time. The drama tells the story of a young martial artist, Ranma Saotome, who is turned into a girl when cold water is poured on her, and then turned into a boy when hot water is poured on her. The curse complicates things even more for him when romance comes knocking on his door. The play was previously serialized in Japan’s “Weekly Shōnen Sunday” from August 1987 to March 1996. Some of the original voice actors, including Kappei Yamaguchi, Megumi Hayashibara, and Noriko Hidaka, are reprising their roles.

Heartbreak Season 3
