After the overthrow of Sheikh Hasina in Bangladesh, now its President Mohammad Shahabuddin has ordered the release of former PM and prominent opposition leader Khaleda Zia from jail. The President issued an order ordering his immediate release from jail.

Fierce protests were taking place against the quota system

The protesters vandalized and looted there. Let us tell you that the protesters were protesting against the controversial quota system of Hasina government in the country and were demanding its removal. Under this quota system, 30 percent jobs were reserved for the families of veterans who fought in the 1971 liberation war, which was being opposed.

On Monday, the students’ protest there turned more violent and some people climbed the statue of Hasina’s father and Bangladesh’s founder Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He broke the statue with a hammer. After this, Bangladesh Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman announced that Sheikh Hasina had resigned. In his address, the Army Chief said that an interim government will take over the power of the country.

Army Chief took charge

Signaling the end of Hasina’s 15-year rule, Zaman said, ‘I am taking all the responsibility of the country, please cooperate.’ The Army Chief said that he has met political leaders and told them that the Army will take charge of law and order. However, there was no leader from Hasina’s Awami League party in the meeting.

As protests escalated across the country, the Army Chief said he has ordered both the Army and the police not to open fire. Zaman also urged the protesters to exercise restraint and asked them to end violence. He said that all people will get justice.
