Police have begun arresting Bangladeshis living illegally in the country’s capital, Delhi. The Delhi Police has identified 175 such suspects during its verification operation against illegal immigrants from Bangladesh. Officials gave the information Sunday. Police conducted checks in areas outside Delhi for 12 hours starting at 6pm on Saturday.

About the operation, a Delhi Police official said: “Police have intensified efforts to identify and detain people without valid documents. In a massive verification operation in Outer Delhi, 175 people were identified as suspected illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.
Take action on orders from LG
Delhi Police has launched an operation since December 11 to identify illegal Bangladeshi immigrants living in the national capital. The day before, on December 10, the LG VK Saxena secretariat issued an order to take action against illegal immigrants. Since then, the police began an operation to arrest illegal immigrants from Bangladesh.

According to Delhi Police, there are growing concerns about the rise in the number of undocumented immigrants. Police from other districts have launched operations in many areas under their jurisdiction. The police said that a special team composed of personnel from the local police station, district foreign affairs team and special forces has been dispatched to conduct door-to-door inspections of suspected illegal immigrants and collect intelligence.
