Odisha’s love jihad: Change relationship by changing name, then blackmail by making video, girl robbed of money if she doesn’t change religion

An incident of love jihad took place in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. A complaint was received against a youth from Jammu and Kashmir at the Mahila Police Station in Bhubaneswar on Friday. It is alleged that the young man had been instigating girls from Jagatsinghpur to convert for a long time. The accused youth was identified as Sameer Mansoor, a resident of Bihar and currently working in Jammu and Kashmir. The victim is a resident of Patuliya village under the jurisdiction of Kujan police in Jagasinghpur district of Odisha.

The victim and the Muslim youth came into contact with each other through the online gaming application “Free Fire” in 2022. Gradually, their relationship became closer and a deep friendship was formed. Young men began seducing girls while hiding their religious identities. Information shows that in March 2024, the defendant came to Odisha and met the woman.

Accused extorted Rs 5 lakh from victim

The accused Samir allegedly had physical relations with her and also filmed her during their stay at a hotel in Puri. According to the victim’s complaint, Sameer also forced her to change her religion in order to marry him. However, when the victim learned that she belonged to another community, she declined the offer. The young man was outraged by this and began blackmailing her, threatening to publish some of her photos and videos. The accused allegedly extorted around Rs 5 lakh from the girl’s family by blackmailing her.

The victim said: “I have known Samir for two years. At first I thought he was a Hindu, but after a few days I came to know that he is a Muslim and his real name is Samir Mansoor. He is from Bihar, India Samir, who works in Kashmir, is now extorting money from me and my family and I want justice in this matter.” The woman police officer has registered the complaint of the victim and started investigating the case.

What did the police say?

Shubhanarayan Mriduli, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Bhubaneswar said: “A woman lodged a complaint with our women’s police station alleging that a young man sexually assaulted her. Exploitation. She also accused the young man of extorting money and issuing death threats. “We have also registered a complaint against the young man and recorded the woman’s medical statement and we will take further action in the matter as per procedure. ” Penalty has been imposed on the accused Sameer Mansoor under Sections 376 (1), 385,386,294,506 of the IPC and Sections 66 (e), 67,67 (a) of the IT Act.
