A shocking incident took place in Odisha’s Balasore district. Here, villagers tied an Anganwadi worker to a tree and beat him. The woman employee allegedly did not provide regular food, especially eggs, to the children at the Anganwadi centre. The incident took place on September 19 and the video is now going viral.

The victim, Urmila Samal, worked at the Anganwadi Centre in the Silang police station area. While she was doing her daily work, a group of women from the village rushed there. He accused the female employee of neglecting her duties and then tied her to a tree outside the Anganwadi Centre and abused her. The employee asked for help but no one came to her aid and continued to shoot videos.

The mothers of children visiting the Anganwadi centre were angry over the alleged irregularities in food supply, which was the main point of contention. One woman during the attack reportedly said, “She has not been laying eggs for our children regularly, we have complained about this before.” Adding to the allegations, a villager also claimed that the employee had earlier locked a child inside the Anganwadi centre for unknown reasons. “This is not the first time, he has done other questionable things here as well,” the villager commented.

The CDPO reached the spot and calmed the matter.

In this case, the situation deteriorated further until local government officials intervened. On receiving information about the incident, Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) Parbati Murmu of Balipal along with other Anganwadi workers reached the spot. She managed to pacify the angry villagers and rescued Urmila Samar. He was initially taken to a hospital for treatment but due to his deteriorating condition, he was referred to Balasore District Hospital for further treatment.

What did the police say?

The police received the information and registered a case in the BNS department. We got this information from the SDM, Balasore SP Sagarika Nath told India Today over phone. The whole thing is about food. No arrests have been made yet, but action will be taken soon.
