Without permission from three police stations in Cuttack, a rape case was registered at a fourth police station.
In Cuttack, Odisha, Congress MP Sophia Firdous accused the police department of not preparing an FIR. He said the police refused to register the complaint of the student who was a victim of gang rape. Sophia, the first Muslim MP from the Barabati-Cuttack seat, demanded an inquiry into police accountability. He said police allegedly sent the woman from one police station to another to report the crime.
Speaking to reporters, Sofia said she had informed Deputy Director General YB Kourania to submit a memorandum on the incident. They claimed that when the victim went to the police station to lodge a complaint against the accused, three police stations in Cuttack refused to register it.
The police refused to open a case
Sofia also claimed that she was currently unable to contact the victim and feared for her safety. He said: “In a densely populated city like Cuttack, such an incident has never happened before. If such an incident happens here, it is cause for concern.” He further said that as far as I know, the police did not initially No case was filed. The Congress leader claimed that the woman first went to Prigat police station, then to Sadar police station and then to Barang police station. Thereafter, an FIR was registered at Badambadi police station.

Police said they had arrested six people in the case. Police said those arrested also included the student’s boyfriend, who repeatedly gang-raped the student and filmed the acts. The student said she and her boyfriend went to a cafe in Prigat police station area to celebrate her birthday. With the help of the cafe owner, the lovers filmed some private moments on their mobile phones. Through the same video, her lover and his friends blackmailed her and raped her multiple times.
Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan said the state government is adopting a zero-tolerance policy against crimes against women and is working towards making Odisha free of such crimes by 2026.
