ODI World Cup in India Generated Economic: The 2023 ODI World Cup was hosted by India, in which Team India made it to the finals with a great performance. However, unfortunately the Indian team was defeated by Australia in the final. But now a big news is coming about the World Cup. India had benefited by thousands of crores of rupees from this tournament.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) released a report on Wednesday (September 11). According to this, the ODI World Cup 2023 generated an ‘economic impact’ of $1.39 billion (about Rs 11.67 thousand crores) in India, in which the tourism sector benefited the most.

This was the biggest ODI World Cup till date

The economic impact assessment conducted by Nielsen for the ICC claimed that the tournament was the biggest ODI World Cup ever. ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice said in a statement, ‘The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 has demonstrated the significant economic power of cricket, generating economic benefits of $ 1.39 billion (Rs 11,67 crore) for India.’

Australia won the title for a record sixth time, ending India’s winning streak in the final of the tournament. The ICC statement said, “The tourism sector in the host cities generated revenue of $861.4 million which includes accommodation, travel, transport and food and beverages as a large number of domestic and foreign tourists arrived for the matches.”

A record 12 lakh 50 thousand fans reached the stadium

However, the ICC did not clarify whether the figures mentioned in the report are actual revenues or not. The report claimed that a record 12.5 lakh spectators watched the ODI World Cup in the stadium and about 75 percent of them came to watch an ICC match of 50 overs for the first time.

According to the ICC statement, ’55 per cent of the international fans who were talked to had visited India regularly in the past, while 19 per cent of international fans visited India for the first time due to the World Cup.’

“International travellers visited multiple tourist destinations during their stay, generating an economic impact of USD 281.2 million and nearly 68 per cent said they would recommend India as a tourist destination to their friends and family members in the future, thereby enhancing India’s global image,” the statement said.

The report said that more than 48,000 full and part-time jobs were created by direct involvement in organising the tournament as well as by other organisations in the hospitality sector.
