An NRI man who came to offer prayers at the Badrinath temple in Uttarakhand was swept away by the flow of Alaknanda river. He came to Badrinath Dham from Malaysia with his father. However, SDRF saved his father. Currently, the search for NRIs is ongoing.
A 40-year-old NRI who came from Malaysia with his father to offer prayers at the Badrinath temple was swept away in the strong flow of Alaknanda river on Tuesday, Chamoli police in Uttarakhand said. The accident took place at Gandhi Ghat in Badrinath Dham.
Suresh Chandra, father of an NRI, was rescued by State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel. He was also about to drown in Alakananda. He has been admitted to nearby Vivekananda Hospital. Meanwhile, Suresh Chandra’s NRI son Balraj Sethi is yet to be found.
According to the news agency, the father and son from Malaysia and four other family members came to India on September 14 to participate in the Chardham pilgrimage. He arrived in Badrinath Dham on Tuesday to visit the temple. But during this period, Balaji Sethi was washed away by the Alaknanda river.
Yamunotri Dham Two deaths
Another source said that two pilgrims returning from Yamunotri Dham in Uttarakhand died due to deteriorating health conditions. In fact, a pilgrim fell unconscious near the Jankichatti parking lot after visiting the Yamunotri temple on Monday morning. He was immediately taken to hospital where doctors declared him dead. The deceased was identified as Kailash Chandra Asawa, 61, a resident of Bhilwara (Rajasthan).
Earlier (late Sunday night), the health condition of another pilgrim in Yanki Chati deteriorated following which he was rushed to the hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. The deceased was identified as 64-year-old Srinivas Kuchimotla from Andhra Pradesh.
