Doubling the fine for burning straw

The Supreme Court has condemned state governments for imposing lighter fines on people affected by stubble burning. Since then, the central government has doubled the amount of fines for straw burning. The central government took a tough stance and doubled the amount of fines. Please be informed that these rules have been amended in the National Capital Region and surrounding areas under the Air Quality Management Board Act, 2021. Let us tell you that now, farmers who burn stubble and have land area less than 2 acres will be fined Rs 5,000, farmers owning 2-5 acres of land will be fined Rs 10,000 and farmers who own land will be fined Rs 10,000. Land exceeding 5 acres will attract a fine of Rs 30,000.
