London: The situation has gone from bad to worse due to ongoing violence against Hindus in Bangladesh. It is no longer safe to live here, not only for Hindus but also for citizens of other countries. The UK also admitted that the situation in Bangladesh has deteriorated. As a result, the UK government has updated its current advice for its citizens in Bangladesh and advises UK citizens not to travel to Bangladesh.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) reviewed the security component of the security advisory issued for Bangladesh on Tuesday evening. The updated advice warns against all but “essential travel”. “Terrorists may attempt to carry out attacks in Bangladesh,” the FCDO travel warning said. “Terrorist attacks are possible in many places, which may also include places visited by foreigners, such as densely populated areas, religious sites, (and ) political rallies, etc. “Some groups target people they believe have views and lifestyles contrary to Islam.”
UK admits deadly attack on Hindus
“Attacks have targeted religious minorities as well as police and security forces,” the UK advisory said, including improvised explosive device attacks in major cities. “Bangladesh authorities are working tirelessly to thwart the planned attack.” Chinmoy Krishna Das, a former official of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), was arrested on treason charges. The atmosphere in Bangladesh is tense. Earlier, British Indo-Pacific Secretary Catherine West said in the House of Commons on Monday, “We understand the concerns of the Indian government following the arrest of prominent Hindu leader Chinmoy Krishna Das on treason charges.” The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) is monitoring these developments closely.
