2024-09-25 12:08:01 : The British smartphone maker announced the Nothing OS 3.0 update on Tuesday along with the launch of Nothing Ear Open – its first open true wireless (TWS) earphones. The update, first released earlier this year, will bring features powered by artificial intelligence (AI) such as natural language search and intelligent image classification. It will also reportedly introduce more customization and personalization options, new apps and widgets, and system-wide performance enhancements.
Nothing OS 3.0 update features
In a video posted on Nothing’s YouTube channel, the company revealed several features included in the upcoming update. While not official, it is speculated to be based on Android 15 – the latest Android operating system (OS) that was released globally earlier this month.
One of the most notable changes in the upcoming Nothing OS 3.0 update is improved fonts. There’s no word yet that it will feature an updated Sans Serif font as well as the existing N-Dot font in the operating system and applications, bringing a more modern, cleaner look. It also has a new point animation engine that can animate and make it more dynamic during activities like unlocking or charging the phone. It can also display items such as icons from weather applications in a bitmap style.
The update also brings a new lock screen that allows for more straightforward editing. It comes bundled with new clock faces, fonts, and design layouts. Quick settings in Nothing OS have also been revamped and are now based on the same grid system as the home screen. Users can also pin apps to the top of the app drawer. Nothing also introduces a new countdown widget. As the name suggests, in addition to showing things like a year’s progress, it also allows users to start a countdown to a specific date. They are also able to link the widget with friends and family and share content across devices.
The Carl Pei-led company confirmed that artificial intelligence features will also be included in Nothing OS 3.0. It will bring a new smart app organization system that automatically arranges them in different categories based on usage. Nothing’s upcoming update also confirms the launch of a new gallery app, which uses artificial intelligence to automatically highlight key objects and separate them from the rest of the image. The company will also roll out other AI features in the coming months, such as automatic AI image classification and more natural language searches. AI upgrades and super-resolution features are also confirmed to be in the works.
Nothing OS 3.0 update release date
There is no word that its 3.0 update will be in public testing starting in October. Its public rollout will begin in December. The list of supported devices is said to be announced soon.
