Innovations are being made in the ‘Prosperity from Silk Scheme’ of the Cottage and Village Industries Department of Madhya Pradesh. The process for producing medicines from silk has been expedited at Malakhedi, the silk development center in Narmadapuram district. Last month, a contract was signed between Fi Brohit Company and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Government Polytechnic College, Bhopal to manufacture medicines here. Under this, powder, cream, seri bandage and cesarean dressing etc. will be manufactured from silk thread at Malakhedi Silk Development Centre. Apart from medicines, efforts are also being made to produce other types of products from silk thread. In this direction, a demand letter of Rs 50 crore has been sent to the state government for necessary research and development works.

Commissioner Silk Mohit Bundas said that ‘New Silk Eco System’ has been developed under the Silk to Prosperity Scheme for quick implementation of services related to the development and expansion of silk. For this, a proposal has been prepared to provide Rs 100 crore to Madhya Pradesh Silk Federation. This amount can be used as per need in the implementation of silk development activities.

He said that the schemes of Silk Directorate will now be implemented through Madhya Pradesh Silk Federation. For this, a proposal has been given to the state government to provide necessary funds (in the form of grant) to Madhya Pradesh Silk Federation.

Commissioner Silk said that another innovative step is being taken for silk development. Implementation of silk development activities in the state has now been started in cluster mode. Along with restructuring of silk activities and creating a new silk eco system, Silk Tech Park was also started in Pachmarhi. Four types of silk cocoons are being produced in this.

MP Silk Federation has been made an incubator under the start-up policy of the state. For smooth implementation of silk development activities, an MOU has been signed between the Fashion Technology Department of Government Women Polytechnic College, Bhopal and IIM Indore for the implementation of New Silk Eco System. Under the Silk to Samridhi Yojana, farmers are also being provided assistance to increase their exports by providing them free silkworm seeds and easy loans to increase their livelihood. Silk Catenation, Silk Studio and Silk Tourism have been started in the Branding Promotion Scheme in the Fashion Technology Department of Government Women Polytechnic College.

Commissioner Silk said that silk development activities are being implemented on the model of IIM Indore. In order to get good prices for the silk cocoons produced by the silk producing farmers of the state through competition, a silk cocoon market has also been established in Narmadapuram district from October 2023.
