North Korea tampered with GPS, dozens of South Korean planes stopped with their wings mid-air

Seoul: North Korea disrupted South Korean aircraft flights by tampering with GPS. The South Korean Army made this very serious accusation against North Korea. South Korea claimed that this was a cyber attack carried out by Kim Jong Un’s military. South Korea said a large number of flights and ship operations were affected as North Korea tampered with GPS signals in border areas for a second day in a row on Saturday.

Tensions between the two Koreas have increased as North Korean leader Kim Jong Un showcases his nuclear and missile programs and engages in electronic and psychological warfare. North Korea has recently released thousands of balloons to drop trash and anti-South Korean propaganda leaflets on its neighbors. South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said North Korea’s GPS signal tampering was detected on Friday and Saturday around the western border city of Kaesong and the nearby city of Haeju.

Dozens of planes grounded

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said the North Korean activities disrupted the operations of dozens of civilian aircraft and several ships. Although the South Korean military issued warnings to aircraft and ships near the western border area, it did not explain how North Korea interfered with GPS signals, nor did it detail the extent of the interference. “We urge North Korea to immediately stop its provocative behavior related to GPS jamming,” South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement. We strongly warn that he will bear full responsibility for any consequences resulting from this. (Associated Press)
