Noida woman falls for e-SIM scam, loses Rs 2.7 crore

A case of cyber fraud was committed by a woman in Noida in the name of generating e-SIM cards. Here, cyber goons stole around Rs 27 lakh from the bank account of Jyotsna Bhatia (44), a resident of Noida Sector 82. The victim has filed a complaint with the Cyber ​​Crime Police Station, Sector 36, Noida.

It is learnt that the incident took place on August 31, 2024. On that day, Jotsna received a WhatsApp call in which the caller told her to use the E-SIM facility in the name of Airtel.

Mobile number is deactivated

The caller advised him to get the code and enter it into his phone, after which his phone was deactivated. Thereafter, the caller promised to send a new SIM card, which was not received.

Contact Airtel Customer Service

After this, the victim contacted Airtel customer care and tried to reactivate his mobile number. However, during this period, a large amount of money was withdrawn from their bank account. The victim received three emails from HDFC Bank in which Rs 70,000 had been withdrawn from his account. His bank account was immediately frozen thereafter.

Destroy FD and take loan

Jotsna found out that the fraudsters had also broken into all her fixed deposits (FDs) and withdrawn funds from them. Meanwhile, Axis Bank had taken a loan of Rs 7.4 lakh in his name, which was not taken by him but by the cyber criminals.

File a complaint in the online group

After the incident, Jyotsna immediately filed a complaint on the cyber crime portal. According to his complaint, the fraudsters had accessed his mobile banking app and changed his email and bank details.

Request for loan cancellation

Jyotsna has submitted his bank statements and other important documents along with the complaint to the police and has sought action. He has also called for the recovery of the amount withdrawn from his bank account and cancellation of the illegal loans lent by Axis Bank.

The police have filed a case

The Noida Cyber ​​Crime Police is investigating the incident and said they will catch the criminals as soon as possible. The police said that the victim has lodged a complaint and a special team has been formed to arrest the suspects soon.
