The results of the presidential elections held in Venezuela have come. Nicolas Maduro has been elected President for the third time. According to the results, he got 51 percent votes. At the same time, opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez got 44 percent votes.

However, the opposition is raising questions on these election results. Because in most of the exit polls the opposition’s victory was predicted. Not only this, the opposition has claimed that Edmundo Gonzalez got more than 70 percent votes. The opposition claims that it also has data on Gonzalez’s victory.

At the same time, opposition leader Maria Corino Machado has appealed to the army to stand with the ‘right side’ in a social media post. He wrote that ‘This is the time to stand on the right side. You have one chance and it is now.

Maria was barred from contesting elections due to allegations of conspiring to attack military targets and destabilizing the country.

Venezuela’s election authority said that opposition candidate Gonzalez got 44 percent of the votes. However, Gonzalez says that ‘the results cannot be hidden. The country has chosen peaceful change.

President Nicolas Maduro has been in power for 11 years. He told his supporters last week that if he lost the elections, bloodshed and civil war would start in Venezuela.

Not only the opposition but also Britain has raised questions on Maduro’s victory. The UK has alleged ‘serious irregularities’ in the electoral process. Britain has also demanded release of detailed results. At the same time, America’s Vice President Kamala Harris has said that she will stand with the people of Venezuela.

Nicolas Maduro has been President since 2013. Since his coming to power, Venezuela is struggling with political and economic crisis. It is estimated that more than 78 lakh people have left Venezuela in 10 years. The report shows that 82 percent of Venezuela’s population is struggling with poverty.
