The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday filed a chargesheet in a special court in Lucknow against another key accused in the Ballia Maoist conspiracy case in UP. The investigating agency has accused the accused of being involved in CPI (Maoist) activities with the aim of destabilizing the Government of India.

The NIA has named Santosh Verma alias Mantosh, a resident of Kotwali area of Ballia, as an accused in the supplementary charge sheet filed before the Special Court of Lucknow in the RC 02/2023/NIA/LKW case. Santosh has been accused as an active cadre of the banned CPI (Maoist) organization.

According to the chargesheet, he was conspiring to carry out disruptive activities with the aim of threatening the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India and he himself was involved in such activities. He was also actively involved in recruiting new people for CPI (Maoist).

The case was originally registered on 16 August 2023 by the ATS Police Station Lucknow Police following the arrest of five persons in a raid at the house of a person named Ram Murat. The team recovered several incriminating documents, pamphlets, arms, ammunition and digital devices belonging to the CPI (Maoist) from the possession of the accused.

Investigation has revealed that the banned organization is using frontal organizations to propagate Naxal ideology in the districts bordering Bihar. For this purpose, they had organized a meeting at the house of Ram Murat to further their nefarious intentions.

The NIA, which took over the investigation on November 10, filed a chargesheet against four other accused in the case on February 9 this year. The agency’s investigation revealed that CPI (Maoist) leaders, cadres and supporters/over ground workers (OGWs) were trying to reactivate the organisation in the North Regional Bureau, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.
