NIA court issues bail order to Sadhvi Pragya Thakur in Malegaon blast case, know the whole thing

A National Investigation Agency (NIA) court on Tuesday issued a bail order against BJP leader Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur in the 2008 Malegaon blast case. Pragya, a former BJP MP from Bhopal, is an accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case.

What is the Malegaon blast?

The case involves a bomb blast in Malegaon, Maharashtra, on September 29, 2008, which killed six people and injured more than 100 people. The preliminary investigation into the Malegaon blast case was conducted by the Maharashtra ATS and then handed over to the National Intelligence Agency. Maharashtra ATS detained Sadhvi Pragya Thakur and interrogated him for a long time.

Sadhvi Pragya’s lawyer raised this argument in court

Last month, Pragya Thakur’s lawyers told the court that the blast could have been the work of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI). Thakur’s defense lawyer JP Mishra claimed that after the blast at Bhiku Chowk in Malegaon, locals prevented the police from reaching the spot. Perhaps this was done to save the defendant.

An arrest warrant was also issued in March

This is not the first arrest warrant issued against Pragya Thakur in the Malegaon blast case. In March this year, the NIA court also issued a bailable warrant for the arrest of the BJP leader, the main accused in the blast case. Subsequently, as Pragya Thakur was directed to appear before the court but he remained absent, a warrant of Rs 10,000 was issued.

Poor health mentioned in court

At a hearing in March, Pragya Thakur’s lawyers sought immunity from appearing in court, citing her poor health. Meanwhile, a copy of a letter from his doctor in Bhopal was also produced in court.
