US President Joe Biden honored the 2024 NCAA Basketball Champions South Carolina and Connecticut teams at the White House on Tuesday and congratulated them on their recent national title wins. The South Carolina women’s basketball team won the national championship this year with an excellent 38-0 record. This was their third championship under coach Dawn Staley, which they have won since 2017. President Biden praised the win and said that the South Carolina team has taken people’s interest in women’s sports to new heights.
South Carolina defeated Iowa in the final, which drew more viewers than the men’s championship this year. The match averaged 18.7 million viewers on ABC and ESPN. The number of viewers reached 24 million for some time. Biden said, “It’s clear that now everyone watches women’s sports. After this, the President attended another ceremony organized in honor of the Connecticut men’s basketball team. The Connecticut team won the national title for the second time in a row, posting a record of 37-3 this year. Four players in this team were recently selected in the first round of the NBA draft. Praising the success of coach Dan Hurley’s team, Biden said, “Maybe there is something special in your water,” and also told that 11 players from UConn were also involved in the Paris Olympics this year.
