October 22, 2024: Neena Gupta, known for her candid and unfiltered reactions, recently shared an interesting anecdote from her past in an interview with Siddharth Kannan. The veteran actress looks back on her early days in Mumbai and talks about her struggles and a disturbing experience with her ex-boyfriend.

Nina recalls moving to Mumbai with her then-boyfriend, both eager to succeed in the film industry. She recalls: “When I came to Mumbai, I came with my then boyfriend… Neither of us had a job. I used to work at Prithvi Cafe where I would make bharta in the evenings. Prahlad, the owner I’d be given free dinners as a show of support and we’d hang out in cafes hoping to get noticed by some director.”
She then shared a revealing moment from their relationship, saying: “One day my boyfriend came over and I thought he was drunk. He asked me if I came all the way from Delhi to be a woman. Waiter. I replied, “At least I’m doing something while you’re asking me for cigarette money!” “That was our standard at the time. Thank God I didn’t marry him.”
