Kyiv: The Russo-Ukrainian war is now taking a new turn. Before Trump took office as U.S. president, Ukraine used foreign weapons to attack Russia with the approval of now-President Joe Biden, bringing a new dimension to a war that has lasted nearly two and a half years. Ukraine launched a massive attack on Russia on Wednesday with British Storm Shadow cruise missiles, following the US weapons. Russian President Vladimir Putin is very dissatisfied with this. Joe Biden increases the risk of World War III by allowing Ukraine to use Western weapons against Russia.
On Wednesday, Ukraine fired a British cruise missile at Russia. However, Russia claims to have killed most of them. This is Britain’s new Western weapon against Russia, after the US weapon. Ukraine launched its latest attack on Russia just two days after the United States fired ATACMS missiles at Moscow. Because the day after the US missile attack, the UK also received permission to use missiles against Russian targets in Ukraine.
Worries about war worsening
Fears of war have become more serious after Ukraine attacked Russia with Western weapons after a move by the United States and Britain. The attack was widely reported on Telegram by Russian war correspondents. An official who spoke on condition of anonymity confirmed the new attack. However, a spokesman for Ukraine’s General Staff said he had no information. After the attack, Moscow said the use of Western weapons to attack territory beyond Russia’s borders was leading to a significant escalation of the conflict. Kiev says it now needs the ability to defend itself by attacking Russian targets in the war, which enters its 1,000th day this week.
Hear the sound of a missile attack
Russian war correspondents posted the video on Telegram, which they said contained the sound of a missile strike in the Kursk region on the border with northeastern Ukraine.
At least 14 large explosions could be heard, most of them preceded by the high-pitched whistle of incoming missiles. In the video shot in a residential area, black smoke can be seen billowing in the distance. The pro-Russian “Two Moves” channel on Telegram claimed that Ukraine launched 12 “Storm Shadow” missiles in the Kursk region and clearly showed an image of missile fragments named “Storm Shadow.”
A spokesman for British Prime Minister Keir Starmer declined to comment.
Britain has previously allowed Ukraine to use Storm Shadow missiles, which have a range of more than 250 kilometers (155 miles) inside Ukraine. The government in Kiev is pressuring Western partners to allow the use of such weapons against targets in Russia. This week, two months before Biden leaves office in January 2025, it received full U.S. presidential approval for the use of ATACMS.
