Nasal Front and Naxalite clash in Udupi, Karnataka, Naxalite leader Vikram Gowda killed

Fierce encounters broke out between anti-Naxal forces (ANF) and Naxalites at Kabinarai village in Kalkara taluk in Udupi district of Karnataka on Monday night. The notorious Naxalite leader Vikram Gowda was killed in this encounter. The encounter took place during an anti-Naxal search operation in Seetambelu area when a firefight broke out between Naxalite and ANF teams. The ANF team intensified the operation after receiving information about suspicious activities of Naxalites.

Breaking into Yedagonda Village

It was learned that Naxal forces visited a remote house under the jurisdiction of Jayapura police station in Chikmagalur district. Thereafter, they also sneaked into Yedagunda village in Koppa taluk, where Naxalites discussed issues related to forest encroachment and Kasturirangan reports. In view of these reports, anti-Naxal operations in the region have further intensified.

How did the encounter begin?

On Monday night, five Naxalites entered Kabinal village to buy groceries. As soon as they entered the village, they met the ANF team. Naxal leader Vikram Gowda was killed in the shooting while other Naxalites managed to escape.

Who is Vikram Gowda?

Vikram Gowda’s name is famous among Naxalite leaders active in Karnataka. He was involved in several violent incidents in the area. Following the successful operation by Nusra Front and the police, Naxalite activities in the area are being closely monitored and search operations are underway. After this encounter, the police further stepped up security arrangements in the area to prevent the possibility of activities of other Naxalite groups.
