Narrow living spaces, working day and night, 26 child labourers rescued from Delhi

In the country’s capital Delhi, the police-administration has freed 26 child labourers from different places. Officials said that raids were conducted at eight places including factories in East Delhi’s Mayur Vihar area and 26 child labourers were rescued.

According to the news agency report, the children were found working in exploitative conditions. He said that the children will be presented before the Child Welfare Committee on Friday and further action will be taken based on their statements.

Mayur Vihar Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Sanjay said that raids were conducted in Kondli and Ghadoli areas of Mayur Vihar, where 26 children aged between 9 and 14 years were found doing heavy work in cramped spaces at eight different locations.

He said, ‘The administration had received information that children were being made to work in the area and we held a meeting with police officials, NGO Bachpan Bachao Andolan, Labour Department and Child Committee representatives to take immediate action and took action.’

During the raid, the officials found that the children were not only forced to work but were also not given proper accommodation to live in, the official said. He said, the rescued children were medically examined and taken to a children’s home.

Kumar said, ‘The children were made to work in sewing factories and big shops of sweets etc. We have informed the Delhi Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and all the children will be handed over to them on Friday.’
