Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav took aim at the death of a person in Lucknow police custody.
The case of a young man who died in police custody intensified in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. The deceased’s name was Mohit Pandey. After the incident, family members also blocked the road and demanded severe punishment for the police involved. Now, former Prime Minister of the country and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has made sharp comments on the issue. The former minister said this was the second death in police custody in the capital in the past 16 days.
Akhilesh Yadav further said that the government, which is good at changing names, should now rename police detention houses as torture houses. Every demand of the victims’ families should be met and our thoughts are with them. The statement by the former minister came as the victim’s family members blocked the road in front of the minister’s official residence in Vibhutikhand. Women at home were also seen protesting on the road.
MLA Yogesh Shukla meets the victim’s family
On the other hand, MLA Yogesh Shukla met the victim’s family. He also provided assistance to his family. Family members say Mohit Pandey died in police custody. However, the police refused to accept the family’s version of events. Police also released a video from the detention center in which Mohit Pandey is lying on the floor while his companion is rubbing his back. In addition, a companion was also seen calling the police.
This is the second death, or murder, in police custody in the Uttar Pradesh capital in the past 16 days.
Governments that are good at changing names should now rename police detention centers as torture facilities.
Every demand of the victims’ families should be met and our thoughts are with them.
