A Nagaland cabinet delegation will meet the Union Home Minister to resolve political issues in Nagaland. The decision was taken after the National Socialist Council of Nagalim-Isak Muivah (NSCN-IM) threatened to return to the forest. Official sources provided this information on Sunday.

Sources said a Nagaland cabinet delegation led by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang and Y Patton will travel to Delhi on Monday to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The delegation will use this to put pressure on the Indian government to expedite the resolution of Naga political issues.

center accused of betrayal

NSCN-IM general secretary T Muivah in a statement accused the central government of ignoring the initiative agreement. He said the central government had deliberately refused to recognize key provisions of the historic agreement, especially the Naga flag and constitution. The NSCN-IM on November 7 sought third-party intervention to resolve the impasse over Naga politics.

Sources said the state cabinet is in touch with the NSCN-IM leadership for discussions before leaving for Delhi. Naga armed groups threaten to break the 27-year-old ceasefire agreement with the government. The group also warned against accepting the demand for a separate “flag and constitution” and accused the Center of betrayal.

Flag and constitution demanding independence

The group has been involved in a violent insurgency in Nagaland since India’s independence and signed a ceasefire in 1997 after lengthy negotiations. Meanwhile, on August 3, 2015, NSCN (IM) signed a framework agreement with the government in the presence of Prime Minister Modi. Meanwhile, these Nagas now insist on an independent flag and constitution to resolve political issues.
