Nabha jail break mastermind Ramanjit Singh brought to India, arrested by Punjab Police

Nabha jail break mastermind Ramanjit Singh has been arrested by the CBI and Punjab Police on Thursday after his extradition by authorities in Hong Kong. Officials have given this information. They said that Ramanjit Singh was brought by a team of Punjab Police and he was arrested on reaching Delhi.

Officials said Romi was the main conspirator of the Nabha jail break incident in which six dreaded criminals, including two terrorists, managed to escape. Extradition proceedings were initiated against Ramanjit Singh, a resident of Bangi Ruldu village in Bathinda, in 2018. Punjab Police Assistant Inspector General HS Virk and Deputy Superintendent of Police Bikramjit Singh Brar were on the flight with Romi.

Ramanjit Singh did the funding

According to the police, Romi had provided financial and logistical support to the jail escapees. He had also provided weapons and fake IDs to gain access to the jail and funded the gangsters’ preparations for the jail escape.

Romi was arrested in 2018

Notorious gangster Ramanjit Singh Romi, the prime accused in the 2016 prisoner escape case from Punjab’s Nabha jail, was arrested in Hong Kong in 2018. He was arrested in Hong Kong in connection with a robbery.

The Punjab police had taken up the matter with the Ministry of External Affairs to initiate proceedings for his extradition. Romi was also arrested in 2016. He was later released on bail and during that time he fled to Hong Kong.
