‘Muslim Ganpati’! Secunderabad theme controversial, organizers say

The Ganesha idol in Secunderabad, Hyderabad has sparked controversy. The theme of the film Bajirao Mastani was chosen as the theme for the 11th annual Ganesh Utsav event organized by the Leo Youth Association at Yapural High Voltage Road in Secunderabad. In response, people claimed that he was a “Muslim Ganapathi”.

In fact, the Ganesh idol made on the theme of the movie Bajirao Mastani created a misunderstanding. Some members of the society found the practice offensive. On social media, it was claimed to look like a “Muslim Ganpati” while some called it a secularist theme. An organizer clarified the situation, saying that they were inspired by the movie, but the final presentation did not live up to expectations.

Don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings

He said, “It is not that we explicitly promoted the Bajirao Mastani theme but due to the way things unfolded, some people misunderstood our intentions. We are not here to hurt anyone’s sentiments.” Organisers stressed that their focus was to celebrate Ganesha with devotion and respect.

Call not to misunderstand efforts

Despite the controversy, the association said it intends to continue the celebrations peacefully and urged people not to misunderstand their efforts. Organisers said, “We are just moving forward with Ganpati Bappa and we don’t want any controversy. The output is not perfect but we don’t want to comment too much on it.”
